Robert Hoyle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Hoyle, 78, of Wakefield, Rhode
Island, who died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 12, 2025.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Bob was the only son of the late Florence (Marryatt) and Charles
Hoyle. He grew up in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence and spent summers in Green Hill,
Rhode Island-places that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
After graduating from Hope High School, Bob proudly served in the United States Navy as an
Electronics Technician. Following his military service, he combined his entrepreneurial spirit and love
of comics culture by owning and operating Collectible Comics in Fox Point. Bob later built a long and
successful career in metrology, working at Federal Products Corporation as a Project Engineer in the
Special Gage Division before transitioning to Hexagon (formerly Brown & Sharpe), where he worked for
many years prior to retiring and moving full time to Green Hill. He was a longtime member of the
Mautucket By-The-Sea Association.
Bob loved spending time with family and valued the friendships he formed with his neighbors in Green
Hill. He closely followed current events and enjoyed navigating life with strong opinions and spirited
discussion. A unique man by nature, Bob maintained a small but deeply cherished circle of family and friends to
whom he was fiercely loyal. He was a proud "Uncle Bob"-always ready to teach chess, play the
keyboard, or passionately lecture his nieces and nephews about the state of government and the world
at large.
In earlier years, Bob embraced an active life and enjoyed boating, especially sailing aboard his beloved
boat, According To. A true jack-of-all-trades with an insatiable curiosity, he could build, fix, or explain
almost anything-from electrical wiring to tinkering with gadgets. He held a simple dream of one day
finishing the shed he was building and marking the occasion with a lobster boil.
Known for his love of music, Bob especially enjoyed playing the piano and drew strength from gospel
hymn tunes, carrying their music in his soul. Family members fondly remember "Uncle Bob" for his
love of karaoke and for making holidays especially memorable with his dynamic presence.
Bob is survived by his beloved cousin, who was like a sister to him, Jane Shaw, and her husband Bill; his
nieces Denise Dowd and her husband Tim, Kerri Amerantes and her husband Dennis, and was
predeceased by his nephew and godson, James "Jay" Shaw. He also leaves behind his great-nephews,
Connor Dowd, Tyler Dowd, and Evan Amerantes; his great-niece, Brooke Amerantes, as well as his
close friends in Florida and cherished neighbors in Green Hill.
His funeral will be Saturday December 20th at 9 AM from the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Timothy Church 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick at 10 AM. Calling hours 8-9 AM one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Mt. Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. www.trainorfh.com

I am deeply saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He was such a kind neighbor, and I will truly miss our colorful, spirited conversations. He always offered a unique perspective on the world. One of my favorite memories is the time my kids took him for a ride in their tiny jon boat years ago; they all had a great laugh as they got soaked. Bob and I revisited that wonderful, funny story many times over the years. He was always so kind to everyone in the neighborhood. We will all miss you Bob. Rest in peace my friend.
