A Homegoing Celebration of Life Honoring Mr. Robert C. Hughey
February 28, 1944 – March 22, 2025
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Mr. Robert Charles Hughey, affectionately called "Bob", "Hughey" or "Robert Charles was a man of strength, dedication, and unwavering kindness. Born on February 29, 1944, in Jefferson, Georgia, Robert was one of six children of the late Luther Sr. and Alberta (Lester) Hughey. His journey was one of service, resilience, and love.
Robert met Joanne Ware, and from their bond, his beloved daughter Marcia Brown (Ware) was born. Answering the call to serve his country, he joined the United States Air Force, bravely serving during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he built a life and found love with Andrea C. Allen. Together, they welcomed their children, Robina and Joel Hughey.
A hardworking and self-made man, Robert dedicated much of his career to security, operating his own business and installing burglar alarm systems for D.C. Parks and Recreation. Later, he relocated to Petersburg, Virginia, where he met Desdemona Washington and pursued his passion for business, founding The Car Salon. Through dedication and a strong work ethic, he grew his company to serve over 12,000 vehicles annually. Robert eventually transitioned to serving his community as a security specialist at Petersburg High School, where he became a trusted mentor and protector of the next generation.
On March 22, 2025, Robert was called home to be with the Lord. Though he has departed from this world, his legacy of love, integrity, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply: His daughters: Marcia (Michael) Brown and Robina Hughey, His son: Joel (Fetima) Hughey Sr., His brother: Odis (Essie) Hughey, His grandchildren: Breonn, Joel Jr., Jordan, and Robi and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Though Robert's presence will be greatly missed, his spirit remains alive in the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the many lives he touched. May we celebrate and honor his memory by living with the same kindness, strength, and dedication that defined his beautiful life.
A viewing will be on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment – Petersburg, Va.
Celebration Of Life Services For Mr. Robert Hughey "Bob" will be conducted on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 12noon, at the Community Christian Center 2213 National St. Henrico Virginia 23231. Rev. Julius White, Pastor, Evangelist Candance Foxx, Eulogist, Faith and Family Church, Richmond Virginia and Apostle Dominic Owens, Presiding, Risen Church Florence SC. And full Military Honors.
The family is asking relatives and friends to assemble at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Joel Hughey Sr.,(Fetima) 9051 Lindstrom Place Mechanicsville Virginia on day of service at 10:45 a.m.
