Robert H. "Bob" Jones

Robert (Bob) H. Jones, 96, of La Grange Park, IL, formerly of Oak Brook, Streator, and Maywood, IL, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2025.

Born on February 6, 1929, in Maywood, IL, Bob was the only child of George and Florence Jones, nee Hall. He grew up with a robust work ethic and interest in trains from working in the Joliet, IL rail yards while in high school. He was in a self-directed Boy Scouts of America troop of 8 young men who all went on to achieve Eagle Scout status.

Bob attended Joliet Jr. College for two years then finished earning his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at the University of Illinois. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marion Dorothy Weiss, while she completed her BS in Accountancy as well.

1951 was a busy year for Bob and Marion. In February, Bob and Marion graduated, and Bob made his first attempt to enlist in the US Army. In May, Bob successfully enlisted, after a medical procedure, in the Army, and attended basic training. In August, after some convincing, Bob and Marion set a date for their wedding and were married on September 5, 1951. Bob arrived in Korea after a 19-day boat voyage on February 6, 1952. He was honorably discharged on May 27, 1954.

Bob used his gift with numbers in his professional life in Public Accounting as a partner with Ernst & Ernst. His life of service began in the US Army and continued in various active and advisory roles for St. James Lutheran Church of Western Springs and Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. He was also an asset to the Plymouth Place Residence Finance Committee.

Bob is survived by his children, Nancy, Doug (Sharon), and Jeff, and four grandchildren: Kevin, Rachel, Ryan and Travis. He was preceded in death by seven years by his wife, Marion.

A memorial service will be held at Plymouth Place in La Grange Park, IL on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2pm. Burial will be private.
