Robert Paul Krieger was born on July 2, 1948, to Arthur Junior Krieger and Virginia Belle (Meister) Krieger in Lockport, Illinois. He has a sister Deborah (Krieger) Brumfield, a niece Tiffany Clark and nephew Aaron Brumfield. He attended Central Grade School, Lockport High School and the University of Utah graduating in 1971 with a BS in Social Psychology.
Bob was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. This congregation was originally known as St. Paul's Evangelical German Lutheran Church.
Following college Bob worked for just under one year for the Texaco Refining Company in their sales department in Lockport. This job wasn't the style of job he would have preferred. So, upon resigning he was reminded of his fascination for trains and railroads. He was interviewed and hired on the Rock Island Railroad in Blue Island, Illinois in early 1972 with a Brakeman's date established that April. He worked freight trains, passenger trains and commuters. In 1975 Bob took a promotion to conductor. By the end of 1975, seeing the struggles the Rock Island was having to survive, Bob looked west and was hired on the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne, Wyoming as a switchman/brakeman. The qualification date was May 5, 1976. Bob worked in the yard until that fall when he was added to the road extra brakeman's board going west to Rawlins. After a few weeks he was cut back to working in the yard when an opportunity arose, he qualified in the yard tower as a yardmaster. This position lasted until mid- January when he was cut back and furloughed.
About a week later he was called for engine service on the 4th district working Cheyenne to North Platte, Nebraska. This entailed various jobs in the Cheyenne facility. From there he moved up to switch engine engineer in Cheyenne Yard. Eventually he was added to the road jobs.
In 1979 he helped restore the steam locomotive number 3985 back to service. And in 1988 was selected to be an engineer/fireman on the prestigious UP stream heritage program where he remained until his retirement in 2003. Since retirement he has worked for the UP Historical Society as their Business Manager. Bob has been active in Trinity Lutheran Church for many years as well.
He is survived by his sister Deborah (Krieger) Brumfield, a niece Tiffany Clark and nephew Aaron Brumfield.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr Bob's passing. Though I didn't know Bob personally, he was always a very gracious kind and friendly person who I'm so glad that I had the privilege and opportunity to know. It was only a few weeks ago when Bob called me and we talked briefly . May God bring comfort to Mrs Krieger and family.
