Robert John Langan

Robert John Langan, 65, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a sudden and brief illness on November 10, 2025. Robert (known as Bob or Rob) was a beloved brother and friend.
Robert was a devout practicing Christian and was an active member of the Mountain Christian Church's Abingdon Men's Group and Celebrate Recovery program. He was a previous member of New Life Community at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Bel Air.
Robert struggled with severe mental illness since his late teens, and, despite his own challenges with Schizophrenia he persevered and focused his energies on helping others even less fortunate than him. Working as a Peer Recovery Counselor, previously at On Our Own in Parkville, and until his death, at New Day Wellness and Recovery Center in Aberdeen, he worked to connect people with the resources they needed while striving to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and behavioral health issues. He was an inspiration to his colleagues, friends and family, and will be sorely missed.
In his fifties, Robert went back to college and earned his associate's degree, graduating magna cum laude, from the Community College of Baltimore County. He was a graduate of Bel Air High School.
Robert is survived by his siblings, William J. Langan, Jr./Deborah, Catherine A. Mateer (nee Langan)/James, Daniel E. Langan, Ellen L. Kobler (nee Langan)/Jeffrey, Barbara A. L. Blake (nee Langan)/ Kevin; his nephew, William J. Langan III/ Dara; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Langan and Eleanor C. Langan (nee Shea).
There will be a visitation for friends and family to gather in remembrance of Robert's life on Thursday, November 20th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Walker Chapel located on the Mountain Road campus of Mountain Christian Church in Joppatowne, Maryland. A mass of Catholic burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Havre de Grace, Maryland on Friday, November 21st at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be made to New Day Wellness and Recovery Center in Aberdeen, and On Our Own of Maryland, Inc.
