Robert Alan Leventhal, 82, of Maitland, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, surrounded by those he loved.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Bob carried with him a deep-rooted sense of Midwestern integrity and quiet resolve throughout his life. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and a devoted Badgers fan. He later earned his law degree from the University of Florida, launching a legal career marked by both public service and professional distinction.
Bob began his legal journey as a trial attorney and special prosecutor in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. In 1971, he relocated to Central Florida to serve as Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. He also proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) in the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG).
In 1982, Bob transitioned to private practice, eventually co-founding Leventhal & Slaughter, P.A. with his trusted colleague and close friend, Harrison "Butch" Slaughter. The firm, respected across the state for its focus on white-collar criminal defense, remained a fixture in Florida's legal community for over 25 years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was known for his wry humor, steady presence, and generous spirit. He cherished time spent working alongside his son Rob, relaxing at the beach, skiing the slopes, golfing at the Winter Park 9, listening to Roy Orbison and Joe Cocker, and sharing a simple hot dog with friends.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Dysart Leventhal; his son, Rob Leventhal; and his sister, Marlyn "Ginger" Fox of Chicago. He will be deeply missed by his extended family, lifelong friends, and colleagues who admired and loved him.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at The First Congregational Church of Winter Park on Friday, August 1, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Bob's memory to The First Congregational Church of Winter Park or a
charity of your choice.
