Robert Lyndell Lott, known affectionately as Lyndell to his friends and family, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the age of 87 in his hometown of McAlester, Oklahoma.
A viewing will be 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Pastor April Morse will be officiating.A burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honors and Robert B. Thomas VFW Post 1098.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Schoggins, Bobby Schoggins, Curtiss L. Lott, Curtiss O. Lott, Landon Harmon, and Ronnie Morris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Lott and George Grissom.
Lyndell was born on April 25, 1938 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Curtiss R. Lott and Thelma (Hughes) Lott.
After graduating from high school in Modesto, California, in 1957, he answered the call of duty by joining the United States Navy. His four years of service, from 1958 to 1962, were characterized by the honor and commitment that would become hallmarks of his life. Upon his honorable discharge, Lyndell furthered his education in engineering, attending school in Modesto where he earned college credits that would pave the way for his future career.
In the spring of 1960, Lyndell's life was forever changed when he married his beloved wife, Betty Rosemary Black, in Ceres, California. Their union was one of enduring love and mutual respect, a testament to the power of partnership and family.
Professionally, Lyndell excelled as a refrigerator engineer. Began his career with Louis Rich in Modesto, California as refrigeration engineer and moved up to chief engineer. He later worked at Weyerhaeuser in California. He came to Oklahoma in 1995 and worked at Simmons Foods as chief engineer once they closed, he was hired to do the preliminary role of opening diversified foods, he retired from them in 2006.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Lyndell was a man who found joy and purpose in creation. A talented welder and builder, he reveled in the art of construction, particularly when it involved metal. His hands were rarely still, as he was always busy with plans and projects.
Family was the cornerstone of Lyndell's life. He cherished the time spent with loved ones, recognizing that the bonds of family were the most important structures he could ever help to build.
Lyndell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary Lott of the home; his son, Randy Lott and his wife, Vilma of McAlester; grandchildren, December Thomson, Curtiss O. Lott, Lanie Lott, and Emilyrose Lott all of McAlester; great-grandchildren, Lacie Lott, Curtiss L. Lott, Rilie Clanahan, and Robert Clanahan all of McAlester; his brother, Chester Lott and his wife, Betty of Mantica, California; his sisters, Novella Whatley and her husband, Jarvey, Floetta Bullock both of Ceres, California; sisters-in-law, Glenda Black, Melinda Black both of Ceres, California; a brother-in-law, Mickey Grogan of Ardmore; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Lyndell is preceded in death by parents, Curtiss and Thelma Lott; a daughter, Leisa Lott-Grissom; granddaughters, Heaven Hicks and Taylor O'Brien; brother, Jerry Lott; sister, Louella Designori; brothers-in-law, Steve Black and John Black; a sister-in-law, Carolynee Grogan.
