Robert Manor Obituary

Robert Michael "Mick" Manor, 86, Marion, passed away at 7:35 pm on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Wellbrooke of Wabash.

He married his beloved wife, Billie Jean Dusing, on August 10, 1963, prior to moving to Vevay, Indiana, to set up the school's first art department for the Switzerland County School Corporation, where he taught kindergarten through adult art classes. He achieved many awards for his artistic talent and became the President of the Classroom Teachers Association, before moving to Marion to become a guidance counselor at McCulloch Junior High School in 1966. He later became Vice President of the Marion Teacher's Association prior to being appointed assistant principal of the Lloyd D. Jones Junior High School. He was instrumental to the relocation of Jones Jr. High School to a new location on Pennsylvania Avenue. He was awarded an Educational Fellowship Study at the University of Louisville and a summer fellowship in the Study of Economics at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan.

Upon serving the Marion Community for 28 years, he assisted in the supervision of student teachers for Indiana Wesleyan University for 10 years.

The family lived 33 years in Upland, where Billie was the Director of the Academic Enrichment Center at Taylor University. They later moved their residence to Marion in 1999.

During his lifetime, Mick was active in church and civic organizations. He served many years on the Ball State University Alumni Council and received the "Benny Award" for outstanding service to BSU. He was a member of ISTA State Legislative Committee and served on the Board of Directors of the Grant County Pregnancy Help Center, where he served as treasurer. He was instrumental in establishing the Marion River Community Church. He also chaired the Communication Committee for the fundraiser "M.O.D. WALK".

At age 14, he became a licensed amateur radio operator with the FCC licensed call W9CUC and served several years as treasurer of the Grant County Amateur Radio Club. He enjoyed being a "ham operator" until his death.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling during their 62 years of marriage and had visited all 50 states and over 50 countries.

He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Jean Manor of Marion; daughters, Dr. Rochelle Gail (Dr. Michael Wolff) Manor Wolff of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Renee Jean Manor of Marion, Indiana; granddaughter, Mykynna J. Manor; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Love of Muncie, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. (Gail B.) Manor; step-mother, Dorothy Manor; and sister, Judith Love.
