Robert George Marchand, age 86, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Barnes) Marchand with whom he enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
He was born in Lowell on June 14, 1939, and was the son of the late Romeo J. and B. Alice (Makos) Marchand.
Bob was raised in the Pawtucketville section of Lowell. He attended Ste-Jeanne d'Arc school and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1957. While at Lowell High, he played varsity baseball under the legendary Coach Stoklosa. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force for four years. Upon returning from the service, he eventually ended up at Sanders Associates, working there for over 25 years. During this time period, he went back to night school and graduated from the University of Lowell in 1977. He finished his career at Fresenius Medical, retiring in 2013.
Two of Bob's favorite activities were spending time with his grandkids and going to York Beach, ME. He also loved sports, especially baseball, and he was a lifelong NY Yankees fan. He also coached Little League and Senior League baseball in the Lowell Highlands for many years. Some of his favorite hobbies were reading about history, playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles and sudoku.
In addition to his loving wife, Bob is survived by his children Robert A. & Virginia Marchand of Billerica, Christopher & Melissa Marchand of Chelmsford, and Jennifer Marchand of Chelmsford. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Andrew and Thomas Marchand of Billerica, Lucas, Jacob and Emily Marchand of Chelmsford, Daniel Mandle of Boulder, Colorado; and Hannah Mandle of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by his best friend John Ryan of Tewksbury. He was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Paul and Barbara Marchand, and Getrude and James Spanos, as well as his son-in-law Max Mandle.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 9 am - 10:30 am at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 am following the visitation. Interment in Edson Cemetery, LOWELL.
Memorial donations may be made in Robert's memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
