Robert “Bob” Jerome Matson, 78 years old, born in Blair, Wisconsin, on May 1, 1946, went home to be with Jesus on May 7, 2024.
Bob was an Army veteran and served his country in Germany. He was an engineer and worked at Outboard Marine Corporation/Bombardier for 35 years. Bob started a landscape business after his retirement. He loved to grow flowers and vegetables in his garden. Bob was a member of Grace Community Church for 21 years, a life group leader, and a faithful Christian. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball and he loved NASCAR.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ann Odegaard Matson and Ardel Matson; and step grandsons, Frederick Badgero, III and Jordan Stapleton.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharyn “Sherry” Matson; a son, Jeramie Matson (Amber); grandchildren, Cheyenne Rivas (Kevin) and Chapel Matson; step daughters, Jamie Manning, Kim Stapleton, Misty Ball, and Tina Stapleton; sisters, Jo Drusch (Lyle) and Betty Upham; brothers, Arlen Matson (Liz) and Rich Matson (Grace); and several nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
