Robert McCoy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 13, 2026.
Robert J. McCoy, 70, of Savona, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2026, at Guthrie Corning Hospital after a brief illness. Robert was born on June 14, 1955 to George and Edna McCoy in Geneva, NY.

He enjoyed going out into the community for hamburgers, sodas, or to buy lotto tickets. He always knew whether it was a winner or a loser, and he sure would let everyone know. Robert loved to make staff and peers laugh. He was known to love all things scary, and Halloween was his favorite holiday. He loved watching scary movies and would laugh whenever he had the chance to scare a staff member with a rubber snake or a rubber rat. He enjoyed playing games with staff-his favorite being thumb wrestling of which he was usually the winner.

Robert lived his last few years at the Savona IRA and attended day program at Pathways where he made several friends. Prior to his time at Savona, Robert lived in Cohocton, NY and the Dansville, NY area, attending the Dogwood Day Program, where he left a lasting impression and will be remembered by many.

Robert will be remembered by his brother, John McCoy, of Painted Post, NY, and all of his peers at the Savona IRA. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna McCoy and his brother, Tom McCoy.

Friends and family are invited to join for a Graveside service that will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneva, NY on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 11:00am. There will be a reception following his burial at the Savona IRA from 1:00pm - 3:00pm where friends can join to share memories and stories of Robert.
