Robert Lee "Bob" McCullough, 76, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, following a short, unexpected decline in health.

He was born on January 31, 1949, in Lodi, Ohio to Jack Robert McCullough and M. Charlene McCullough (McDonald).

Bob grew up in West Salem, Ohio and was a 1967 graduate of Northwestern High School. He played varsity football and was a member of numerous clubs and organizations there. He attended Ohio University, receiving his B.A. in English Literature in 1971.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1972 shortly before marrying Joyce Moss on May 10 in Clintwood, VA. He worked at the Naval Air Station personnel office while stationed in Pensacola, Florida.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1975, he moved to Bowling Green, Ohio where he received his M.A. in American Studies from BGSU in 1977.

Bob moved to Columbus, Ohio in February 1978 and began working for the state of Ohio for the Bureau of Worker's Compensation as a public information officer/manager of publications/writer/editor for The Ohio Monitor Magazine. He retired after 23 years in September 2001. He also taught part time as an adjunct professor of introductory English Composition from 1997 to 2010 at Columbus State Community College.

Bob enjoyed reading, theater and opera, cooking, baking, traveling, genealogy and family history, history, politics, writing, spending time with his family and friends, watching television and movies, walking, bird watching and gardening. Bob visited Scotland in 2018 and Italy and France in 2025. He loved music, and enjoyed listening to classical on the local WOSU station.

He is survived by his children Lauren (Stephen) and Erin, both of Westerville, Erin's boyfriend, Kevin, of Hilliard; his partner of 23 years, Cindy Munyan; special grandson Nathaniel "Nat" through Cindy's daughter Katie and son-in-law Dan; sister Karen Johnson, of Wooster; brother, David McCullough, of West Salem, Ohio; sister-in-law, Amy McCullough, of Sedalia, MO; sister-in-law Judy Wasson, of Wooster; nephews, Andrew, Ryan, Brian and Corey; nieces, Sara, Brooke, Kristen, Elizabeth, Alyssa and Bailee; cousins, Deborah, Mark and Cheryl, as well as many other family members, friends, coworkers and classmates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Robert McCullough and M. Charlene McCullough (McDonald); wives, Joyce M. Moss and Cynthia A. Hooley; a brother, Dennis McCullough, of Sedalia, MO; mother-in-law Viola Moss and father-in-law, Al Moss; brother-in-law, Rick Johnson; uncle, Richard McCullough; cousin, Barbara; and daughter, Meghan Kathleen McCullough.

Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, wit, intelligence, penchant for good grammar and punctuation, and love for his children, partner, family and friends.

Day Funeral Services of Gahanna, Ohio and the Veteran's Administration are handling cremation and a service in honor of Bob for family and friends will be announced at a future date.
