Obituary
Robert William Metcalf, Sr. (affectionately known as Pop or Bob), a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and formerly of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away on September 24, 2023 at Sacred Heart Hospital at the age of 84.
Bob was born in Hartford, Connecticut on September 9, 1939 and was part of a close family dedicated to its community in East Hartford, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his mother, Ethel (Hall) Metcalf, and father, Robert A. Metcalf from East Hartford.
He is survived by his two sons, Rob Metcalf and his wife, Sharon and Gregg Metcalf and his wife, Jere. He leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren and their spouses, Merrik Metcalf (Sarah), Bryce Metcalf (Avery), Trevin Metcalf (Jade), Chandler Metcalf (Ricky) and Malkolm and Madelynn Metcalf. Also, left behind to cherish Pop's memory is one great grandson, Mayer Robert Metcalf and an adopted granddaughter, Olivia Gillespie (Matt).
Bob is also survived by his brother-in-law, Sam Leone (Anita); sister-in-law, Diane Clark; nieces, Lisa Pizzoferrato (Rudy), Amy Bowles (Bill) and Kelly Clark; and nephews, Jeffery Clark (Missy), Rich Leone and JR Wisner.
He was predeceased by his loving wife for over fifty-five years, Patricia Ann Metcalf (Mimi); his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Maxine Metcalf; his sister, Anne Metcalf; his nieces, Suzanne Leone and Sue Metcalf; and brother-in-law, Edward Clark.
Bob served his country in the United State Navy and received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Connecticut. He started his professional career in banking, then transitioned to the wine and spirits industry. Working at Seagrams in California in the late 1970s, Federated Distributors in Chicago in the early 1980s and for National Distributors in Atlanta in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He concluded his career as a wine/spirits warehouse consultant and as the manager of family-owned Corks Beverage Depot.
Bob and Pat created deep friendships as their residences changed from East Hartford, Connecticut to Westlake Village, California; Huntington, Connecticut to Naperville, Illinois; then Dunwoody, Georgia to Alpharetta, Georgia; including their combined stay in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Bob and Pat enjoyed time at Somerby, Sandy Springs and Bob's final move to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida was to Watercrest in Santa Rosa Beach.
Pop's real passion was the unconditional love he delivered each and every day to family and friends. He was a devout Catholic, quick-witted and always dispensing worldly wisdom; a joy to be near.
Another core passion of Pop's was his grandchildren. Not a game of baseball or football, competition cheer, or grandparent days at schooland, as well as other events, were ever missed! The families of Wills Park, Alpharetta High school, Blessed Trinity and St. Martins will forever know the love of Pop. Pop especially enjoyed announcing games at the Blessed Trinity baseball field and donut days at St. Martins. Pop and Mimi both were not only there for their family, but were there to support every team mate and friend.
A special thanks to those that cared for Bob during his battle with Alzheimer's. There are many Angels among us and Pop/Bob would want all of us to recognize the good in each other.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations made to the Alzheimer's Association. https://www.alz.org/?form=alz_donate The family will schedule a Celebration of Life at a future date.

May Bob Rest In Peace. My husband ,Tom met him through his service to St. Vincent De Paul.A favorite memory is back in John´s Creek, Ga. We had Pat and he for lunch. After lunch Tom played the piano. The next thing I saw was Bob dancing with Pat. It was the sweetest moment. He loved Pat and his family.
