Robert "Mouse" Mette

Robert "Mouse" Mette, age 77, of Plainfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on May 14, 1947, in Evanston, Illinois, Bob was a cherished son of the late Anthony and Norah (née Hughes) Mette.
Bob's greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Patti (née Dunlavey). He was the proud and loving father of Jennifer (Jeff) Zimmerman, Michael (Carena) Mette, and Marc (Jamie) Mette. His legacy will live on through his eleven adored grandchildren: Nolan Pomatto, Brayden Zimmerman, Colin Pomatto, Briar Zimmerman, Nora Pomatto, Brynnley Zimmerman, Anthony Mette, Valentina Mette, Payton Mette, Taylor Mette, and Nathan Mette. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Bob dedicated 30 years of his life to the Chicago Police Department, beginning his career as a patrolman and spending the majority of his tenure as a detective before retiring in 1998. His commitment to justice and service was evident throughout his career. Following his retirement from the CPD, Bob continued to serve his community through the Cook County State's Attorney's Office from 1998 to 2010.
In his recent years, Bob found great camaraderie and joy during his early mornings at the YMCA. There, he enjoyed swimming, sharing coffee and donuts, and engaging in lively conversation and laughter with his cherished "Y friends."
Bob is also survived by his brothers, James (Jeanean) Mette and Frank (Linda) Mette, who will fondly remember their shared memories. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and good humor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his dear sister, Victoria Mette.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory, 24021 Royal Worlington Dr., Naperville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials in Bob's name be made to organizations close to his heart: the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation (a cause that supports the families of fallen officers) or the C.W. Avery Family YMCA (an organization that strengthens the community).
