Edward F. Downey, age 95, a resident of Wyndemere in Wheaton, IL, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025. He was born on September 7, 1930 in Chicago, IL.

Edward is survived by his loving children, Edward (Shannon) Downey, Jr., and Catherine (Thomas) Fletcher; his cherished grandchildren, Eamon, Michaela, Meghan, Brianna, and Maeve; his sister, Marie (the late Richard) Sikes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne Bankert Downey; his first wife, Eileen Downey; his son, James Downey; his parents, Henry and Marie Downey; his brother, Henry (the late Jean) Downey.

Edward grew up in the Beverly neighborhood in Chicago and attended St. Ignatius High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University before he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge Edward returned to Georgetown University Law School and earned his juris doctorate degree. He practiced law for over 50 years.

Edward was a proud Rotarian and served as President for the Evergreen Park, IL chapter. He will be remembered as a loving dad, grandpa, brother and uncle, and will be missed by all who knew him.

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Edward's life, memorial donations may be directed to PAWS or Rotary International.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 28, 1:00-4:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 29, 11:00 AM at St. Daniel the Prophet Church, Wheaton. Family and friends will meet for the 1:30 PM committal services at 1:15 PM at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
