Our beloved Dad, Robert Slied Meyer, of Oklahoma City, joined our heavenly Father on Mar 27, 2022.
Robert Slied Meyer, born November 28th, 1936, the 2nd of 7 children, 5 Sons and 2 Daughters, to Joseph Frank and Laurel Mabel Dell Meyer, in Cleburne, TX. Robert graduated from Godley High School in 1954. He joined the Navy on March 6, 1956, as an aircraft mechanic, attending Naval Boot Camp in Sunny San Diego, California. In contrast, He promptly traveled to his first duty assignment in the Non-Tropical Adak, Alaska. Robert completed a 5-year meritorious stint with the Navy, as a Crew Chief. He was medically discharged following an unfortunate aircraft incident. He joined his parents in Norman, Oklahoma, where he found his first love Nancy Jane Heflin. They were married January 6, 1962. They moved to Wichita, Kansas where Robert worked at Gulfstream as an aircraft mechanic. They returned to Norman, Oklahoma in 1963 where they had the first child Robert and were blessed again in 1966 with their daughter Tracy.
Robert, a restless soul, eventually discovered his occupational passion "Over the Road Trucking" and worked at Freymiller Trucking for 25 years, where he earned not 1 but 3 "Million-Mile" Safety Awards of which he took pride in and was eager to share a "Million" stories of his various travels around the country with anyone willing to lend an ear.
He had several hobbies to include, writing poems and short stories, collecting metal dicast cars and trucks, watching his Texas Rangers play baseball and the Dallas Cowboys play football, as well as never passing up a chance to sing karaoke.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 25 years Mary Judith (Judy) Leavitt Meyer, brothers Lacy Frank Meyer and August Henry (Hank) Meyer. He is survived by his Children Robert and wife Kathy Pelley, Tracy and husband Stephen Rariden, Timothy Meyer, adopted children Michelle Herman, Michael Herman, several dear step children, including Christine Folks, grandchildren Benjamin and wife Tiphani Pelley, Hayden and wife Allison Pelley, Christina and husband Christopher Eagle, Courtney and husband Kristoffer Schaffler, Marissa Rariden, Dylan and wife Michell Rariden, Chase and wife Aubree Rariden, great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tyson, Thea, Taye, Lennox, Locklyn, Makenzie, Brody, Kolbee, Kohyn, Maddox, Aubree, Alexis, Colter, Tristen, and imminently arriving Latham. He is also survived by brothers, and sisters, Joseph Wayne Meyer, Fannie Margret (Marge) Meyer, Willford (Bill) O'Dell Meyer, and Neva Dell Henderson, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Life United Methodist Church.
Viewing will be at John Ireland Funeral Home Thursday evening 5:00-6:00.
A celebration of his life will be Friday at 10:00 at Lynlee Mae Chapel, with burial following at Acton Cemetery, Grandbury, Texas at 3:00.
