Robert (Bob) P. Miles II, aged 80, of Rockland, MA died September 10, 2024, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA.
Bob was born in Middlebury, VT to Robert P. Miles and Laura L. (Billings) Miles. As the child of an Air Force officer, he traveled with his parents around the United States and to Bermuda and England. He had fond memories of the times spent with his grandparents S. Jason and Blanche Billings and his many cousins, in Ripton, VT. Bob graduated from high school at Bushy Park, Central HS, Teddington, Middlesex, England in 1961. He then attended the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany transferring after his first year to Stonehill College in Easton, MA. He graduated from Stonehill in 1965.
Bob served in the Army in Korea during the Vietnam Era and was there during the Pueblo Crisis. He was fortunate to visit Japan twice on leave as well as Wake Island and Hawaii. He returned to the United States to earn a master's degree at UMass, Bridgewater, on the G.I. Bill and taught English at Dedham High for 30 years.
He enjoyed summer visits to Bailey Island, Maine, and winter visits to Little Torch Key in Florida. During his younger years he camped in and visited most Canadian Provinces and many state and national parks in the US. He traveled even more extensively during retirement visiting Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Austria, England, Ireland, France, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Bob was a devoted son, caring brother, and loyal friend. He is survived by his sisters, Donna Sullivan of New Hampshire, Nan Accursio of Idaho, Felicia Miller of Florida, and Mary Meece of Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Patrick "Tommy" Miles and his partner Clare (Guivens) Stella.
Per Bob's wishes there will be no services, and his ashes will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Cape Cod. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bob to an animal Shelter or Rescue in your area.

Belated condolences to Bob's family.
Bob was a long-time friend of my brother, Curt Chase, who died in 2010. Bob and Curt attended college together and taught at the same high school. I was in high school when I met Bob and dated him briefly after high school. He was a frequent visitor, to my parent's home, both in New Hampshire and then Maine.
We remained in touch over the years. I knew his health was failing. When I did not hear from him this Christmas, I found his obituary.
Rest in peace.
Cindy
