Robert (Bob) Eugene Mingus was born to James and Judy Mingus (Cundiff) on August 20, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Jeanette; his son, Kevin; his sisters, Tina Woodall (James), and Phyllis Harris (Bill); brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Dean, James (Beverly), Roy (Ollie), and Carole (Phillip) Mingus.
He is survived by his daughters, Kerrie (Tony) Smarrella and Kelly Hoke; son, Kent (Charla) Mingus; brother, Phillip Mingus; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Bob graduated from Pike High School in Indianapolis and made all-county in football and track. After serving an apprenticeship, Bob worked for Allison Transmission as a machine repairman for 44 years. He met his wife (Jeanette) in California while serving in the US Navy after high school.
Bob faithfully served and attended the Light and Life Free Methodist Church where he and his wife Jeanette were married in 1955. He enjoyed playing in the church softball league, and serving as a church trustee, board member, head usher, and also food pantry volunteer for many years. He was quick to help with any church repairs and assisted with the church relocation from Speedway to Avon, Indiana.
In his spare time and retirement years, Bob enjoyed golfing, gardening, vacations with his children and grandchildren to Florida, and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. An ever loyal and reliable friend and father, he will be missed as he has entered his eternal home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Light and Life Food Pantry, 8264 E. CR 100, Avon, Indiana 46123.
Visitation is Tuesday, May 6, 2025, 9:30 am until 11:00 am at Light and Life Church, Avon, Indiana.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Zack Martin officiating.
Burial will immediately follow at West Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
