Robert "Mitch" Marshall Mitchell
September 14, 1939 – January 1, 2025
Robert Marshall Mitchell, known to most as "Mitch", 85, of Beaverton, MI, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, surrounded by love and laughter.
A proud veteran, Mitch served as a paratrooper in Company D, 1st Airborne Battle Group, 327th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, often associated with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles), from 1959 to 1961. His love of the outdoors was evident in his passions for hunting, fishing, and baseball. Whether on the lake summer fishing, ice fishing in winter, or exploring the woods with his long time friend, Mark Carleton, Mitch embraced life with vigor and enthusiasm.
Mitch spent his career at the Waterford Water Department before retiring to enjoy lake life in Beaverton, MI, with his beloved and devoted wife, Patricia "Pat," and their sweet corgi, Cooper. Together they cherished moments on the lake, trips to the casino, and a life filled with love and companionship. Even well into retirement, Mitch remained active and could be found back at the ball fields, cheering on his granddaughters' travel softball teams. His presence in the stands, full of pride, became a staple of their games and a testament to his unwavering support for family.
Mitch was deeply loved and is survived by his adoring wife, Patricia; his cherished children, Ron, Maria, and Leah; and his beloved grandchildren, Ronnie, Mat, Nicholas, Kimberly, Thomas, Katherine, and Sophia. He was also a proud great-grandfather to seven beautiful great-grandchildren. Mitch is also survived by his loving older sister, Bonnie Beanblossom, of Waterford as well as nephews Robert and Thomas, niece Vicki and many adored great nieces and nephews who shared in his life's joys and memories.
To those who knew him, Mitch was a man of humor, gratitude, and kindness. He always had a joke at the ready, a warm smile, and a genuine appreciation for life. These qualities remained with him until his last hours, leaving a legacy of laughter and love that will be fondly remembered.
A military service is expected to take place this Spring, along with a Celebration of Life. Family and friends will be asked at that time to gather to honor Mitch, celebrate his life, and cherish the memories he leaves behind. Details to follow. Rest in peace Mitch. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
