Robert G. Mortimer, "Bob", was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on September 2, 1946, passed away February 21, 2025 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Bob led a life of a teacher and valued sharing his knowledge with his family and friends. He cherished his time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob was raised on a ranch in St Anthony, Idaho where his love and passion for horses and cows ran deep from his family heritage. He participated in Future Farmers of America and after High School attended Ricks College followed by Texas A&M University to pursue an Animal Science degree. During the summer months he worked at the Jenny Lake Corrals Dude Ranch in Jackson, Wyoming, catering to travelers at the park. He met Victoria Arnold from Rexburg, Idaho during this time and proposed marriage just before he was drafted to the U.S. army to serve in the war between 1970-1972. Upon his return they married in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Bob attended Colorado State University for a Master's degree followed by Veterinary Medicine where he specialized in Bovine reproduction and obstetrics. After graduating from Vet school, they returned to Idaho to a small vet practice.
In 1982 he returned to Fort Collins for a teaching job at Colorado State University where Bob found his true calling as an educator. He loved his undergrad and grad students in the Animal Science department. His classes in the springtime were known favorites for the vet students due to the hands-on experiences of calving heifers and riding the range at the Rex Ranch in Nebraska. Many years were spent teaching and mentoring the future large animal vet students. After 30 plus years of teaching, Bob retired to run his own animals on a smaller scale with Victoria in Laporte, Colorado.
Bob was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in bishoprics and on the High Council. He loved the scouting program and spent many years helping with the Young Men programs. He enjoyed teaching and taking the Youth out backpacking and camping. Many of his hours were devoted to helping in his community. He enjoyed his time as a Bishop and loved the Lord with all his heart.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Reed Mortimer; his mother, Carma Robertson Mortimer; his siblings Dennis Mortimer, Betty Pehrson and Loriann Leatham. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Arnold Mortimer; his siblings, Sandy Ripplinger, Roger Mortimer and Randy Mortimer; his children, Brant (LeAnna) Mortimer, Laura Mortimer, Andrew Mortimer, Sarah (Alex) Panting, and Ruth Law; and his beloved eleven grandchildren; Devon, Brandon, Dylan, Travis, Breanna, Tanner, Eden, Corban, Evan, Emma, Reid and three great grandchildren.
Bob's legacy of love, service and dedication to the church, community, Colorado State University, friends, and family will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 9:30AM. The Funeral Service will be held after at 11:00AM. Viewing and Funeral Service will be held at the LDS Church Building at 1400 Lynnwood Dr, Fort Collins, CO 80521.

Sincere sympathy to Robert's family. Jerry is unable to write this message, because of his strokes, but I know what he would say. Bob was a great colleague who shared teaching goals (Jerry also specialized in dairy theriogenology). Bob loved teaching, problem-solving, working with livestock owners, and advancing knowledge by supporting/leading his colleagues. He was kind to receptionists and department heads alike.
