Dr. Robert Lynn Nida, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on March 11, 2025, in Naples, Florida. Born on November 9, 1943, in Covington, Virginia, Bob's life was marked by a profound dedication to his family, an unwavering commitment to education, and a love for sports and physical fitness.
Bob's journey began as the cherished son of William Gordon and Bertha Helen Nida in Covington, where he cultivated a love for learning and athletics. He graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1961, setting the stage for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Bob went on to earn his Bachelor of Science from Bridgewater College in Virginia, where he also demonstrated his athletic prowess by playing both baseball and basketball. His academic journey continued as he earned his Masters degree from Friends University in Kansas and ultimately his Doctorate from Regent University in Virginia.
In his professional life, Bob's intelligence and wise guidance were evident to all who worked with him. His career spanned several industries, including roles at Leigh Cement Company, Honeywell, FAG Bearings, Accuride Corp, and Wabash National. Bob also shared his knowledge with future generations as an adjunct professor at Purdue University, where he was known for his engaging teaching style and mentorship. He was known for his intelligence, a wise counselor to many, and a man whose faith was the guiding principle of his life. His legacy is not only in the successful career he built and the knowledge he imparted but also in the strong, loving family he leaves behind.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 29 years, Linda Nida, of Naples, Florida. Together they nurtured a beautiful family, including his children, Chris Nida, Lindsey Daly (married to Jordan), Travis Nida (married to Sara), Whitney Van Der Hyde (married to Eric), and Ashley Nida. Bob also embraced his role as a stepfather to Mandy Hafner (married to Todd), Molly Stillwell, and Megan Rexwinkle (married to John). His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and the family grew to include 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild, with another on the way, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
An avid runner, Bob competed in several races and was very proud of those accomplishments. He was a member of the Traders Point Christian Church and also found pleasure in reading and spending time with family and friends.
Bob's Celebration of Life will be at Avow in their Ispiri Community Center, Sunday, March 16 from 4:00-6:00pm in Naples, FL. A private family burial will follow in Jacksonville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Support Network, www.support.network

My condolences to Bob's family. Though I never met him, I feel like I knew him through my many conversations with Molly. It is clear he loved his family, and family loved him.

May you find comfort knowing he is in Heaven, and in peaceful rest. He had a life well-lived.

I was shocked and saddened to learn that Bob has passed away. He was a friend and support to my husband, Jim. We always enjoyed sharing time with him especially at mealtime at the Fairway. May find peace and joy in your memories. Sincerely, Lorraine Nelson
