Robert A. "Bob" Nielsen, 79, of East Hartland, beloved husband of Wendy (Berg) Nielsen, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born December 9, 1945, the son of the late Noralf and Kari (Larsen) Nielsen. Bob was raised in East Hartland and attended Gilbert High School.
Bob enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1963-1967 during the Vietnam War as a Motor Transport Operator.
For the majority of Bob's working career, he was a cross-country truck driver. He also worked in construction for various construction companies including Nielsen Family Construction. Bob was an avid NASCAR fan whose favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr., and he very seldom missed a race. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family, especially tinkering with his "Bro" Kenet.
Bob is survived by his wife of 20 years, Wendy (Berg) Nielsen of East Hartland, his daughter, Catherine Taylor of Torrington, his son Arthur Taylor of East Hartland, his grandchildren, Taylor and Harley Clapper, his brother Kenet Nielsen of Granby, his nieces, Deborah Constable and her husband Chuck of East Hartland and Sandra Lisella and her fiancé Scott Poeppel of East Hartland.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Arne Nielsen, his sister Berniece Moore and his nephews, Paul Slater, Timothy Slater and Tommy Slater.
Bobs family will receive friends on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 12-3PM at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT 06095. A memorial service will with full Military Honors will follow at Carmon's beginning at 3PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
