It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bob OCallaghan announces his passing on February 8, 2025 following a brief illness.A native of Nashville, Tennessee, he grew up loving hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. His adult life led him to exciting experiences in service to the country he loved. At age 19 he volunteered for service in the Marine Corps and went on to serve 19 months in Viet Nam. He was very proud of his service with the Combined Action Program (CAP), working with the locals to fight the Viet Cong.Following graduation from Memphis State University he went on to have a stellar career as a U.S. Treasury Agent, working in the IRS to protect employees from potential bribes and threats.During his time with the Treasury and following a week spent in Oklahoma City following the bombing there, he single-handedly stopped a mass murderer outside an Albertsons grocery store in Colorado. For this he received national recognition and was one of ten finalists for Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 1995.Bob and his much-loved wife Karin traveled a lot with his career and as a family. They managed to visit almost all of the National parks, with just six left at the time of his death.Bob was extremely proud of their two sons, Mike and Brian, who followed their father into the Marine Corps and then into government service.Bob and Karin were married almost 55 years. Bob is survived by Karin and their two sons Mike (Janet), Brian (Shenoa), and his beloved grandson Aidan. Also still at the home were their dog Maggie and the cat Luckey. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, the family asks that contributions be made to the National Park Foundation or the National Law Enforcement Memorial.A celebration honoring and remembering Bob will be held at a later date.
