Robert Edward Provost, born on June 15, 1949, in Colchester, Vermont, passed away on June 18, 2025, at the McClure Miller Respite Home in Colchester after an extended illness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Robert dedicated over 37 years of his life to the Colchester Road Department, retiring in 2015, a career marked by his unwavering commitment to his community. He was known as a pretty social guy, the life of the party who could light up any room with his quick wit and infectious smile. Always straightforward and direct, he was generous to a fault, captivating children and adults alike with his wild stories. His creativity shone through in the unforgettable memories he crafted, such as delighting children with scratch-off tickets at Christmas, and sharing some outrageous tales about how he lost his leg. Those stories were out of this world, matching his scrappy spirit despite his size.
He was educated at Essex High School and carried his love for the community into all aspects of his life. Robert cherished his hobbies, which included racecar driving and NASCAR, as well as hunting and fishing. He took great pleasure in chatting with folks about anything and everything, forging connections that enriched his life and the lives of those around him.
Robert was immensely proud of his family, who were the centerpiece of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Darla of Grand Isle; his two sons, Jason and his wife Kimberly of Grand Isle, and Trevor and his wife Cindy of Colchester. His grandchildren, Maddie, Abby, Trent, Mya, Gavin, Bailey, Colton, and Justin, brought him boundless joy and pride, and he always delighted in sharing moments with them that would leave lasting impressions.
He is also survived by his brother, Richard of Swanton. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Constance Desjardin and Arthur Provost, his daughter, Kami Provost, and his siblings Martha, Janice, and Larry.
Robert Edward Provost will be remembered not only for the many stories he shared but also for the love he had for his family and friends. His legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of those he touched with his warmth and humor. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a true embodiment of community spirit and familial love.
