Robert R. Rajala, 76, of Duluth MN, Entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Benedictine Health Center while in Rehab.
Robert was born on October 18, 1946 in Virginia, MN, to Reynold Rajala and Lucille Elkington.
Robert was a retired veteran for the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War in Germany as a Medic from 1966 to 1969.
Robert then came home to Virginia, MN and met his soon to be wife. He married Barbara Rajala(Bertram) on April 24,1970 in Grand Rapids, MN. They then went on to have 2 children. Barbara then passed away from cancer in 2009 and he remained a widow.
Robert was a postal carrier for the USPS in Virginia, MN and in 1980 moved to Chisholm, MN and became a postal carrier for the north side of town. He retired after 25 years of service.
Robert then moved to Duluth in 2014 to enjoy his retirement and family where his daughter Christine became his caregiver. He enjoyed spending time with his roommate and best friend David Madson at Brighton Beach and bird identifying and watching at home.
Robert had an old hippie soul who enjoyed his classic cars including his 1969 Dodge Charger, and his 442. He loved his Rock and Roll oldies, knitting slippers, camping and playing the bongos.He loved traveling to Pfeiffer Lake and Gooseberry Falls. He loved watching classic tv shows, new tv shows and his horror movies with his friends and family and especially his granddaughter Serena.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Rajala, his mother and father, his brother Dennis Rajala of Virginia, MN and his sister Patricia Erickson of Marble MN.
Robert is survived by his son Robert J. Rajala of Hibbing, MN and his daughter Christine L. Miller of Duluth, MN. His 4 granddaughters Courtney(Devon) Eden of Virginia, MN, Samantha(Aaron) Van of Kentucky and Duluth,MN, Serena Miller of Duluth,MN and Carlee Miller of Duluth,MN. Robert had 7 Great Grandchildren ages 2 to 13, his nephew Jason Aultman Rajala of Marble,MN and a great niece Jalynn of Marble, MN.

Thanks to Benedictine Health Center in Duluth,MN for the great care they gave for the 2 months he was there and the beautiful Procession of Honor after his passing.

A private family memorial will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 up on the shores of Lake Superior in honor of his marriage of 39 years.
