In Loving Memory of Bob Ransick

RANSICK, Robert J., beloved husband of 51 years to Mary Carol (nee Tiernan), who preceded him in death. Loving father of the late Terri Ransick-Bass. Survived by Jackie (Randy) Anderson, Robert Ransick (Blake Goble) and Julie (Seth) Thompson. Devoted grandfather of Zoey, Elizabeth, Alex, Hazel, and Nick and great grandfather of Jane. Dear sister of Nancy Blaut (nee Ransick). Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at home after a long courageous battle with Mesothelioma. 

Bob Ransick was the beloved youngest of nine children of Marguerite and Elder Ransick. He leaves behind a legacy of being a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Bob's strong work ethic was evident from an early age; he started working as a golf caddy at Western Hills Country Club while still in the third grade. After showcasing his talents as a football player in high school, his athletic career was cut short due to a back injury. Bob met the love of his life, Mary, at the age of 16. At 17, he joined the Air Force. Their relationship endured the challenges of his being stationed in Korea and blossomed after Bob's honorable discharge in 1960. Bob and Mary were married in the winter of 1962 and welcomed their first child, Terri, at the end of the year.

Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising four children: Terri, Jackie, Robert, and Julie. For over 50 years, Bob worked as a carpenter, providing for his family and also building the home where many cherished memories were created. Even when traveling for work, he made it a point to remain an involved and loving father, often bringing Robert to meet him on weekends when he couldn't travel home.

A versatile athlete, Bob enjoyed a variety of sports in adulthood, including bowling, softball, and golf. He thrived in family game nights, where he would frequently be heard asking "Whose deal is it?". His father, Elder, instilled a lifelong love of playing cards starting with 500 and then Euchre. This love was passed down to his children and then grandchildren. To this day there is no family gathering without playing Euchre. Known affectionately as "The Commish," he founded a thriving friends' golf league over 35 years ago that continues to celebrate camaraderie and spirited competition today.

Bob's warmth played a significant role in his family’s lives. He inspired his son-in-law, Randy, to take up golf, fostering a lifelong passion and friendship. His commitment to community was showcased in his church involvement, where he led youth programs and coached his daughter Julie’s soccer team for years. He cherished precious moments with his grandchildren, delighting in always being present for sports and other activities they participated in. 

After the passing of Mary, Bob found joy in weekly spaghetti dinners at The Werkhaus and Sunday gatherings with his daughter Jackie’s family. A devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, Bob embraced the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Jane, and looked forward to welcoming another great-grandchild this June. His time spent with sister Nancy, including Friday night dinners, card games, and a trip to California, provided him with cherished companionship.

When Bob retired from the construction business, he dedicated his time to helping others as a driver for Wesley Community Services, ensuring that the elderly received transportation to their appointments. In the last ten years of his life, he enjoyed meaningful moments with girlfriend Toni (Luke), traveling to see his daughter, Julie in North Carolina, card games with friends, and shared meals, enriching his later years with companionship.

Bob was infamous for his sense of humor and an endless supply of jokes. His kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit will always be remembered by his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories that will forever be treasured.

Visitation on Monday, March 3 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Antoninus Church, 1500 Linneman Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45238, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be held in the undercroft at St. Antoninus Church immediately following the mass and burial.
