Robert Ren Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates Funeral Chapel - Oskaloosa on Dec. 14, 2024.
Robert L. Ren, 78, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born December 21, 1945, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of John Jack and Phyllis Ballard Ren. He attended Martinsdale Schools. Robert was a talented handyman and mechanic, following school he worked as a mechanic and rebuilt campers. He also worked for a short time as a security guard. On January 22, 1966, he was united in marriage to Susan Knight in Belvidere, Illinois. To this union four children were born, Robert, Tim, Lovana, and Terri. In 1983, the family moved to Texas and Bob took a job with Affiliated Foods. He started as a welder and worked his way up to Facilities Manager. He retired from there in 2007. In retirement Bob spent his days on the bank of the lake fishing. In addition to being an avid fisherman he was adamant that his yard was always perfectly manicured. He also enjoyed working on cars and rebuilding motors.
His family includes his wife of nearly 59 years, Susan Ren of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Lovana Brichacek and Terri (Gary) Kutcher all of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, Mercaidez Gillem, Dustin Smothers, Austin Smothers, Bryson Smothers, Josenya "Josie" Brichacek, and Cezlie Weldon; two great grandchildren, Nebula and Kendrick; a brother, Steve Ren of Des Moines; four sisters, Jean Ren of Arkansas, Mary Stone of Texas, Kim (Kevin) Conklin of Iowa, and Linda Young of Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful side kick Benji the dog.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert "Bob" Ren and Tim Ren; a great granddaughter, Emersyn Smothers; three sisters, Jackie Wambsgans, Roxy Moll, and Irene Ren; and two brothers, Kerry and John Ren.
As was Robert's wish his body has been cremated. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date in Texas. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Susan Ren so she can buy endless treats for Benji.
