Robert “Roy” Henderson Sr. passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 29th, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Sharon Foltz Henderson, son Robert R. Henderson Jr., daughter Ronda K. Henderson, sisters Delores Sanders and Yvonne Turek, brother Charles Henderson, 6 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Garrett & Blodvin Hoyle Henderson and sister Cloie Barbina.
Roy was born October 17th, 1943, in a small rural community in Alabama to parents Marion Garrett Henderson & Blodvin Hoyle Henderson, the 2nd oldest of 5 children. At the age of 9 the family moved to Geneva, Ohio where he later met and married his High School sweetheart on May 14th, 1965. Shortly after, he and his wife moved to Beech Grove, IN where they raised their family. Though a man of few words, he never missed a swim meet, band competition or sporting event - he was always present for his children and their endeavors with loving support. After proudly working for Amtrak for 38 years, he retired and moved to a small farm community in Sumterville, FL. There he enjoyed horseback riding, square dancing and of course a fierce game of BINGO. In his retirement years he never passed up a chance to vacation with family, whether it be cruising the Caribbean or Alaska, vacationing in the mountains of Tennessee or Missouri or combing the beaches of North Carolina or Florida, he was always game for travel. After 22 glorious years in the Sunshine State, he and his wife moved back to Indiana in January of 2025 to be closer to family.
Roy was a much-loved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He will be missed by all.
