SARGENT, Robert Earl, Sr. - Age 100, of Elon, NC, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025. A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, August 29, 2025 at Argentine Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton.
Bob was born December 24, 1924 in Fenton, the son of Ray Valentine and Hazel (Fisher) Sargent. He was a graduate of Linden High School. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy from January 19, 1943 until February 23,1946; at sea on the USS Implicit in the Mediterranean, Black Sea and South Africa; he also served on the Honor Guard for the Yalta Convention February 4, 1945. He married Melvola Mary McCaslin and she preceded him in death March 20, 1999. He had resided in Elon, NC since 1984 coming from Linden. Bob retired from GM Fisher Body Grand Blanc (Tank Plant) after 30 years of service. He served as a Nazarene Pastor for 30 years.
Surviving are: his children, Pamela Goode of Mebane, NC, Shelia McBride of Grand Blanc, Laurie (Rob) Kelly of Bay City and Robert Earl (Cheryl) Sargent, Jr. of Calhoun, GA; 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Risa Whalen; sisters, Louise Scully, Iris Litten, Theo Shelp and Pearl Sargent; brother, William Wayne Sargent. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
