Robert "Bob" Selzer

Robert "Bob" Selzer, 92, of Naperville, IL, formerly of Morton Grove, Niles and Glenview, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He was born on July 14, 1931, in Chicago, IL to Mary Rae nee Downing and Oscar Peter Selzer.
Loving father of Dorothy (James) Taylor and Robin (Thomas) Schultz. Dear grandfather of Jennifer Taylor, Justin Taylor, Michael (Dawn) Schultz, Christopher (Amy) Schultz, and Patrick (Stephanie) Schultz. Great grandfather of Caroline Schultz, Madeline Schultz, and Kailey Schultz. Cherished uncle and great uncle. Bob also leaves behind his special friend Sylvia Stec.
Bob was preceded in passing by his parents, siblings, Oscar Selzer and Dorothy Selzer, and daughter, Susan Selzer.
Bob grew up in Chicago and attended Steinmetz High School, class of 1949. He had a motto to never stop learning and continued to enhance his education through college courses, trade school programs, and self-study.
Bob started his professional life in construction, working in the plaster and lath industry, before joining the Carpenters' Union. As life went on, Bob started his own construction company and built residential homes and small businesses in the Chicago area. He served as a deputy with the Cook County Sherriff's Police, for a number of years. Bob's wide-ranging interests often led him to become involved in new business ventures.
Bob was a long-time member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Morton Grove.
Bob enjoyed traveling all over the world. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob could often be found at his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Bob enjoyed playing poker and Pinochle with friends. Bob had a passion for gambling and would place a bet with family and friends on anything from sporting events to which elevator was going to arrive first. Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

The Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a burial at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
