Robert C. Shannon

NEW PALESTINE – Robert Clayton Shannon, 76, of New Palestine, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born on July 13, 1947, in Glasgow, Kentucky to his parents, James T. and V. Brady (Jennings) Shannon. Robert graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1966. After high school, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. He married the love of his life, Janet (Skiles) Shannon on January 5, 1974.
Robert spent 30+ years working as a Commercial Insulator with Local #18 in Indianapolis. Robert enjoyed playing golf, fishing, shooting guns at the range, coin collecting, painting, and carpentry.
Robert is survived by his wife, Janet Shannon of New Palestine; sons, Joseph W. Shannon of New Palestine; Matthew (Christine) Shannon of Greenfield; sister, Jimmie Lou Stuart of Greenfield; grandchildren, Brayton Shannon (Mallory); Brooklyn Shannon; and Halie Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kingsley and Weston; and several nephews and a niece. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Joe Shannon.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with military rites presented by the U.S. Air Force.
