With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert E. Sharkevich, Sr., who died in the line of duty while serving as an active firefighter in Wethersfield, CT. Robert dedicated 25 years of service to the Hartford Fire Department before continuing his commitment to the community as a member of the Wethersfield Fire Department for 22 years. In addition to his firefighting career, he worked as a carpenter and maintainer for the Wethersfield Public School District over the last four years, leaving a lasting impact on the town and students he cared for so deeply.
Robert was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, Papa, Godfather, friend, and community volunteer. He was known for his caring nature, unwavering love for his family, and his unforgettable sense of humor. Robert will forever be remembered as a true hero who always put others before himself.
Predeceased by his father, Edward Sharkevich; his mother-in-law, Pierina Guglielmi (DiMascio); and many aunts and uncles. Robert leaves behind his beloved mother, Sophia Sharkevich, father-in-law, Panfilo Guglielmi, his wife, Joanne Sharkevich (Guglielmi); his son, Robert Sharkevich Jr., and wife Kristi Sharkevich; his daughter, Kristy Sharkevich; his twin sons, Camden and Kayden Sharkevich; and his grandchildren, Jourdan and Adriana Sharkevich. He is also survived by his brothers, Steven Sharkevich (Rose Sharkevich) and Gary Sharkevich, Sr. (Debra Sharkevich); his sisters, Cathi Gulliksen (George Gulliksen) and Karen Letizio (Vincent Letizio); his sister-in-law, Diana Babych (David Babych); brothers-in-law, Panfilo Guglielmi (Maria Guglielmi) and Phillip Guglielmi, as well as his nieces and nephews, including Corri Finocchiaro (Johnny Finocchiaro), Gary Sharkevich, Jr. (Melissa Sharkevich), Ashley Ambruoso (Francesco Ambruoso), Laura Gulliksen, John Gulliksen, Britney Letizio (Fiance Thomas Schweizer), Matthew Letizio, Derek Guglielmi (Amy Guglielmi), Alexa Kubica (Wesley Kubica), Austen Guglielmi (Breanna Guglielmi), Tessa Guglielmi, Ty Babych, Kolton Babych, Jaret Babych, Cal Babych, Breanna Guglielmi, Hailee Guglielmi, and Taryn Guglielmi. He also leaves behind many great-nieces, great-nephews, numerous cherished family friends, and his brothers and sisters from the Hartford and Wethersfield Fire Departments.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Homes, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, CT 06109. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT 06105, followed by interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT, 06067. Robert's legacy of selflessness, courage, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Wethersfield community.
