Robert Lee Smith

Robert Lee Smith, Jr. (City) was born on May 8, 1967, to Robert Lee Smith Sr. (Valerie Smith) and the late Patricia Ann Mills-Smith in Wilmington, DE. Robert entered into eternal rest on November 2, 2025, at Christiana Hospital.
Robert received his early education in the public schools of Wilmington, DE, and graduated from Thomas McKean High School. Shortly after Robert became a father, in 2000, Ezion Mount Carmel United Methodist Church presented Robert with the Father of the Year award. Later, Robert worked at the port of Wilmington until he was no longer able to work. After Robert became ill and unable to work, he spent most of his free time with his granddaughter. Robert enjoyed picking up Jo'Elle after school every day, spending time with her while her mother worked.
Robert was very popular and well known as "City." He had a beautiful smile that could light up the world, and a singing voice so strong that the angels in heaven could hear him. Robert enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, talking for long hours with his children on the phone, and going to church. He attended Mount Zion AUMP Church.
He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Johnson; his mother, Patricia Smith; his brothers, Milton (Poncho) Mills, Marvin, Melvin, and Daryl (Nyce) Smith; his grandmother, Alma Mills; and his uncles, Cecil and John Mills.
Left to cherish Robert's memory are his father, Robert Smith, Sr. (Valerie Smith); his children, Desmynn Johnson, Aaron Archy, Cornelius Archy, Terniqua Smith, Christopher Evans, Jaequane Horta, Njakyra Smith, Jaun'Nae Horta, Kyri McIntosh, Nyir McIntosh, Shakira Horta, Nassir Smith-Woulard, TaKye Dupont, Zy'Ayre Horta, Jaden Smith, and Nehemiah Smith; his grandchildren, Hassan Smith, Nevaeh Johnson, Kimaiya Archy, Zanayrra Horta, Jhamira Simpson, Rene Curtis, Jo'Elle Crumpler, Kadira Archy, Jaelynn Horta, Christopher Evans, Jr., Jaequane Horta, Jr., Nyir McIntosh, Jr., Ihyah Reed, Cornelius Archy, Jr., Bentley Evans, Fahim Herman, Isaiah Horta, Cayce Archy, Savannah Brooks, Emilia Evans, and Brielle Charles; his aunt, Sally Gillium; sister-in-law, Keisha Smith; his longtime girlfriend of 20 years, Sherry Commodore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members, and friends.
