Robert S. Sniffin, 38, formerly of Danbury, died on Friday, June 6, 2025, at his home in New Milford. He was born in Danbury on January 18, 1987, beloved son of Patrick and Katherin (Sackett) Sniffin. Robert was a graduate of St. Gregory the Great School, Danbury High School, and Manhattanville College.
Robert was an avid reader and enjoyed acting in local theater, most recently in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar at Theaterworks in New Milford. Notably, JCS had been his first Community Theater experience decades earlier at The Brookfield Theater of the Arts.
Rob had prominent, or interesting roles on stage at St. Gregory, Danbury High School, and at Manhattanville. Among the most memorable were The Ugly Duckling in Honk, the Mayor in Seussical, Peter/Judas in JCS, and the title role in Pippin.
Rob spent more than a decade living in New York City, working in hospitality, spending time with friends, and attending shows, notably Titanique, which he saw more than 20 times. He founded Barefoot Shakespeare ten years ago with a few friends and directed, acted in, and produced many shows before separating from the company.
Those who knew Rob knew that he lived with passion, fought for people and causes that mattered to him with everything he had. Laws that discriminated or marginalized others, access to mental health, the arts and education were but a few of the things he advocated for. He had long and passionate communications with so many people on topics that they shared a common interest with including politics, theatre, cats, religion, tattoos, sharks, and the meaning of life.
Although so many people loved, supported, and helped Rob as life became challenging, he often declined as he tried so hard to maintain independence as he battled depression. What brought him the greatest joy was watching his sisters become successful professionals, wives, and mothers.
In addition to his parents, Pat and Katie, he will be sorely missed by his sisters, Megan Vo and her husband, Eric, and Emily Michalek and her husband, Ryan; his nephews Ronan and Declan, with whom he would talk for hours on end about dinosaurs. Rob was excited to welcome a third nephew in a few weeks.
He is also survived by his maternal grandfather, James T. Sackett, and dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, his cats, Charlie and Beri, and more dear friends than anyone could count. He made friends quickly and loved them for life. We are certain that those who mattered will have meaningful memories and signs that he is still making another point from his next life.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Saturday, June 14th between the hours of 2:00 – 4:00pm. LP Funeral Services will be held privately. Cremation and interment will occur at a later date.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to TheaterWorks PO Box 836 New Milford, CT 06776.

The last message I have from Rob is about wanting to do the musical "Parade" with me. What I wouldn´t give to take the stage with Rob again.

There are some friends you can go months or even years without seeing, and when you reconnect, it´s like no time has passed at all. Rob and I met in 2006, performing with Musicals at Richter. Over almost 20 years, we lost and found each other more than once, always tied together by the invisible thread of our shared love for the theatre.

Most of our text message exhanges were about the roles we fantasized of playing together. He was my cheerleader and would talk about wanting to "work up" to being able to play opposite me. He was so humble in the recognition of his own talent and he treated his art with a sacred preciousness that influenced everyone around him. My heart will always have a stage for Rob.

As friends and family gather today to celebrate his life, I´m honoring Rob by dedicating my performance tonight in `Fun Home´ to him. Theatre brought us together in the summer of 2006, and now it will help me say goodbye. This painful, but deeply meaningful thank you to my dear friend Rob feels like a fitting finale to our story.

Dear Pat, Katie, Megan & Emily,
Our hearts are broken for all you. Rob was so full of life, with a smile that would brighten the room and whose laughter was contagious. When getting together for family events and holidays we could always count on him for cracking us up with his great sense of humor, for his endless compliments and praise of our cooking, and for all of the great conversation we shared, to name only a few. We loved him very much. Rob was such a joy and blessing. He has, and always will, have a special place in our hearts. We´re going to miss him terribly.
Keeping all of you in our hearts and prayers.

Rob took me into his heart and his life from the first moment I met him - my new director in a new acting company I was invited to work with. He became one of my dearest and truest friends. Even when we were not in the same city anymore - we spoke and texted regularly - he shared words of support and wisdom when I was feeling the pain of my own children's struggles - as well as my own - and we continued to share our dreams, hopes, loves and ideas...and his poetry...so many beautiful, deeply felt verses. He will remain a blessed memory and I will carry him in my heart forever. I have requested that a small grove of ten trees be planted in memory of Rob and his magnificent spirit. He was all about nature and light and growth, so quite fitting...and I lift prayers for strength and peace for his family and all who loved our Rob. There are legions of us.
