James Rush
October 24, 1933 – October 4, 2025
James Rush, 91, of Danbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 4, 2025. Born in Danbury on October 24, 1933, he was the son of Christine (Grana) Rush and James Rush.
A graduate of Danbury High School, James attended the University of Connecticut before proudly serving his country as a radio operator in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Fittingly, he passed on October 4th-a date symbolic to radio operators as a message of understanding and completion. For his honorable service, he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, and was rarely seen without his Korean Veteran hat.
Following his military service, James enjoyed a successful 25-year career with Pitney Bowes. He valued structure and routine, taking daily walks and maintaining his independence even as his eyesight declined.
James found joy in life's simple pleasures-a Sycamore cheeseburger, Häagen-Dazs ice cream, milk chocolate, and his Sunday coffee and donut. His passion for history was remarkable; he loved reminiscing about the past and especially cherished the memory of marching in the band at President Truman's 1949 Inaugural Parade.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elayne Rush, and his loyal feline companion, Missy. He is survived by his sister, Patricia LaForte (Sam) of Brookfield; his brother, Walter Rush of Las Vegas, NV; and his loving niece, Lynn Dudas (Brad) of Redding.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 74 Joe's Hill Road, Danbury, followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in New Milford.
