Robert "Bob" Sobieck, 82, of Arcadia, died on Friday, January 10, 2025, surrounded by family at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
Bob was born on April 21, 1942, on his family's farm in rural Independence to Paul and Euphrosine (Giemza) Sobieck. While farming was his true passion, he also worked as a logger. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Dascher on February 23, 1963, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Arcadia, and after a few years of marriage, the couple decided to buy a farm in River Valley, rural Arcadia. Bob loved to tinker with farm machinery, fix equipment for his family, friends and neighbors, and work on shop projects. When he was younger, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. In his later years, he loved to go for rides around the countryside, where he would comment on cropland and look for deer. He enjoyed socializing with anyone and everyone, whether pulling over to chat with a neighbor he passed on the road, chatting up the nurses and technicians during dialysis treatments, or striking up a conversation with a stranger. He had a sweet tooth that was almost as large as his heart of gold- often indulging in Polish coffee cakes and caramels that he was always willing to share. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, prayed daily, and was proud of his deep-rooted Catholic Faith
Bob is survived by his children: Christy (Don) Moats of Whitehall and Mike (Melissa Thompson) Sobieck of Arcadia; grandchildren: Olivia, Jada and Jordyn Moats, Alexia and Jose Quiroz; sister: Marie Conrad; sister-in-law: Colleen Kujak; brothers-in-law: John (Sherry Severson) Dascher and Ron Paetzel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: Andy; grandson: Devon Quiroz; sisters, Esther Bisek, Elizabeth "Betty" Dascher, and Ruth Wegman; brothers, Ray, Everett "Poopsie", Ralph, Adrian, and Duane Sobieck; and brothers-in-law: Eldon Conrad, Dallas Dascher, Robert Dascher and Linus Kujak.
Bob's family would like to send a special thank-you to the staff of the Gundersen Renal Dialysis Center in Onalaska for their care, compassion and friendship over the last 9 years of treatment. They also wish to thank the staff and drivers of Trempealeau County's ADRC and the friends who helped with Bob's transportation to and from Onalaska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church in North Creek, rural Arcadia with Father Kyle Laylan officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Arcadia. Family and friends are welcome to share stories and celebrate Bob's life following burial at the Arcadia Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Holy Family Parish.
