The family of Robert E. Soller are saddened to announce his passing on July 18, 2023 at 93. Bob and his twin sister, Rita, were born December 15, 1929, at home in Duncan Falls (Zanesville), Ohio, to the late Ralph & Rose (Sigrist) Soller. Bob was married for 62 years to Mary Jo Kinsel from March 31, 1951, until her passing on Feb. 12, 2014.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo (Kinsel) Soller, parents, Ralph & Rose Soller, brother, Ralph Soller, sisters, Rita McCarty, and Ruth Longert; brother-in-laws, Jerry Braden, Richard McCarty, Dr. Alan Longert, Jim Kinsel, Edmund Kinsel, Robert McLain; sisters-in-law Julia Kinsel, Virginia (Kinsel) McLain; and grandson, Drew Soller.
He graduated in 1947 from St. Nicholas High School in Zanesville, OH, then served as a medic from October 1952-August 1954 in the Korean War for 2 years, moving up the ranks to Army Staff Sergeant. He worked for many years as a livestock broker with David Davies in Zanesville & Columbus and Producers Livestock in Marysville. After he retired in 1994 from Producers, he began his 25-year-long plumbing dept. career at Ace hardware in Marysville.
Bob was awarded The Korean War service ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge, and Bronze Campaign Star and was at the battle of Pork Chop Hill in Korea.
He was a devout Catholic who said the rosary every night and served as an usher from age 18 until age 90. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus from 1951 until present, serving in many positions including Grand Knight, treasurer, and trustee. He enjoyed bowling in leagues in Zanesville, Columbus, and Marysville. He taught all his kids how to bowl and play Euchre and Pinochle.
Bob is survived by his sister, Regina (Soller) Braden, his sisters-in-law, Ernestine Soller, Dee Kinsel and Janet Kinsel (Sister Therese), his 13 children, 33 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren: Jim (Connie) Soller, of Gahanna; Marty (Linda) Soller, of Upper Arlington; Tom (Peggy) Soller, of Marysville; Rick (Nedra) Soller, of Gurnee, IL; Cathy (Stacy) Lane, of Dublin; Tim (Deb) Soller, of Marysville; Rob (Tammy) Soller, of Indianapolis, IN; Bill (Becki) Soller, of Westerville; Joe (Missy) Soller, of Worthington; Margie (Alan) Powelson, of Maineville; Pat (Trina) Soller, of Marysville; Phyllis Soller, of Marysville; Yvonne (Brian) Vermillion, of Sugarcreek Twp and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 20 from 3-7 pm at the Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1033 W. Fifth St., Marysville, with burial immediately following at Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery where the Union County Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
