Robert Jonathan Spiggle, 71, of Mount Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, at his home.
He was born April 25, 1954, to the late Robert Lee Spiggle and Shirley Florence Cline Spiggle Carter.
From the very beginning, he was deeply rooted in the Shenandoah Valley, a place he always called home. Throughout his life, Robert was defined by service, strength, and a willingness to step forward whenever others were in need.
He graduated from Fort Defiance High School, where he played football, earned a drafting and design certificate from Valley Vocational Technical Center, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America. He went on to attend Blue Ridge Community College and Eastern Mennonite University.
Robert was a dedicated member of several local volunteer fire and rescue services, spending countless hours protecting and serving his community. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his hometown when he served as a medic in the Army National Guard. He later devoted many years to working at American Safety Razor, where he eventually retired.
In addition to his professional career, Robert worked on the family farm, where he became the primary caretaker. He operated several businesses, including Bob’s Nuisance Trapping, which fulfilled his passion for hunting and being outdoors, and an auctioneering business that refined his skill for identifying and collecting antiques. He also published a book about Seawright Springs where he served as its groundskeeper for decades.
Robert was a member of Verona United Methodist Church, where he met and later married Pamela Jean May on September 18, 1980.
He is survived by daughters, Jenny McLawhorn (Susan) and their son, Oliver Martin, and Robin McClure (Ryan) and their children, Dylan Riley, Devyn Riley, and KarmaMarie Eward; his sisters, Ellen Florence Spiggle Parcell and Grace Marie Spiggle Dick; his second wife, Katy Simmons; his step-sister, Teresa Wagoner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Pamela Jean May Spiggle; his son, Jeremy Wellons Spiggle; his brother, Jeffrey Kim Spiggle; his sister, Shirlette “Joy” Joyce Spiggle Tinsley; and his step-father, Curtis Lee Carter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Verona United Methodist Church.
Interment will immediately follow at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mount Sidney.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club (65 Buttermilk Rd, Mt Sidney, VA 24467) or to the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad (1601 N Coalter St, Staunton, VA 24401).
