Robert T. St. Onge, 57, of South Windsor, beloved husband of 31 years to Marietta (Krahula) St. Onge, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 5, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 30, 1967, in New Britain, son to Thomas and Rachel (Cyr) St. Onge.
Bob grew up in Plainville, attended local schools, and was a graduate of Plainville High School, Class of 1985. Following high school, he entered the workforce with a long career as a metal finisher at Rayco in Middletown, CT, he then owned his own commercial cleaning company, Bob's Cleaning, and ended his career working for the South Windsor Board of Education as a custodian at Pleasant Valley Elementary School for the last 13 years. He loved working with the teachers and staff there and the kids affectionately called him Mr. Bob. Another one of Bob's passions was firefighting with South Windsor Volunteer Fire. He was so proud to be a member of Company One but helped whenever and wherever he was needed. He loved to help at the fairs and Fire Safety days at the elementary schools, he also loved all his brothers. One of his proudest moments was completing Fire 1 alongside his son Jesse, at Eastern Connecticut Fire School.
As a child growing up in Plainville, one of his passions was performing, singing and dancing, which he continued in high school and with the Plainville Choral Society. His family went on many camping trips, which gave him his love of the outdoors, fishing and hiking. He also had a love of Maine, where his family was from and recalled many stories about the trips to the family homestead in Madawaska and Frenchville. Bob also had a big interest in Gold Panning, and avidly tried to find gold. He was so excited when he found even a small flake. He loved watching all reality tv shows, which included Bigfoot, Alaska, the paranormal, and weather phenomenon. He was a big softie and enjoyed a good Hallmark movie marathon. His favorite place to visit was Lake Champlain and the family would like to thank the Holowitz family for all the wonderful memories at their camp in Colchester, VT. Bob would go out to his favorite fishing spots with his kids and especially loved to talk fishing with his future son-in-law Nick. Bob was very handy, and mechanically inclined. A few of his favorite projects were building an outdoor lean to for his daughter Cassie and fixing little things around the house. Bob was a member of the Connecticut Professional Photographers Association and helped his wife with many photography sessions, playing Santa as well as being the grill master for the annual picnics. Growing up with so many family members and close friends, gave Bob the ability to pass on many traditions, stories, and love to all those that surround him. Though his journey was short, the family would like to thank all the nurses and staff in the eighth floor ICU unit at Hartford Hospital, for all the kind, caring, and supportive treatment.
In addition to his wife and mother, Bob is survived by his three children, Sierra St. Onge and his fiancé Jess Boudreau of Asheville, NC, Cassandra St. Onge and her fiancé Nicholas DeGennaro of Davie, FL, and Jesse St. Onge of South Windsor and his girlfriend Makayla Beauty; his sister, Debra (St. Onge) McMahon of Peekskill, NY; his nieces, Una McMahon and Andrea McMahon; his nephew, Adam McMahon; as well as a host dear friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas; his in-laws, Dr. Joseph and Martha Krahula; and his nephew, Joey Krahula as well as several aunts and uncles.
