Obituary published on Legacy.com by William H. Clark Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 7, 2026.
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Robert L. Tagliabue, age 90, of
Stroudsburg, PA, on Monday, January 5, 2026. He was an active member of St. Matthew's Church, in East Stroudsburg.
Robert was born in
Jersey City, NJ, in the home where he was raised, to Mary (May Parmigiani) Tagliabue and Charles Tagliabue. He attended St. Michael's High School, where he served as captain of the basketball team and president of his graduating class. He and his brothers-Charles, Paul (predeceased), and John-shared fond childhood memories, especially of summers spent at the family retreat at Cupsaw Lake.
Robert loved to retell family stories, including the time he fell off a hayride he was not supposed to be on and fractured his head, and the day his cousins, Mary Elizabeth and Mary Sophie, lost him at Coney Island. He proudly recalled being taken to the lost child station under the boardwalk and later being taught his grandmother's phone number "just in case."
Robert took over his father's construction company and later supervised revisions at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. He and his three brothers shared a special bond. Though they lived all over the world as adults, no matter how far apart they were, they always stayed true to their Jersey City roots.
Robert is survived by his children: Teresa (late husband Michael Mastrobuoni), Joy (husband James Siri), Mary Beth (husband Joseph Hartnett), and Robert (wife Michele Ferentinos). He also cherished his 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. While living in
Rutherford, NJ, the family shared many cherished memories, including vacations at the Jersey Shore, ice skating at Memorial Field, and countless moments spent together.
Robert served in the National Guard and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a lector at St. Mary's Church in Rutherford and proudly served as PTA president at his children's high school.
In later years, Robert met his longtime companion, Mary DeQuevedo. She and her sons Robert (wife Lisa) and Michael (wife Jennifer) became a part of his family. Together, they were active members of the Red Cross, assisting victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy and volunteering at the World Trade Center site following September 11. Robert and Mary shared a love of adventure, enjoying skiing and volunteering with ski patrols at Alpine Mountain and Camelback Resorts. They also loved mountain biking, kayaking, tennis, and attending Super Bowls together.
They were active members of the Big Pocono Ski Club, where they participated in countless activities, including hosting the annual luau and attending the Oktoberfest celebration-complete with lederhosen. Friends and family especially looked forward to Robert's annual birthday pool party.
Robert taught us all that family is the greatest gift life can give. We will forever treasure the memories he gave us and remember his positive spirit and love of life. He will remain in our hearts always.
There will be calling hours on Monday, January 12th from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.
