Robert E. "Bob" Techam, age 85, of
Shakopee, Minnesota, passed away on December 11, 2024.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18, from 4-7 PM at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave. East, Shakopee, also 1 hour before the service. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held Thursday, December 19, beginning at 11 AM, also hosted at McNearney-Schmidt. The service will be followed by a reception. Private burial will follow at Valley Cemetery, Shakopee.
Bob was born on March 31, 1939, in
Shakopee, Minnesota, the firstborn to Ernest and Harriet (Abel) Techam. He was raised in rural Chanhassen on the family dairy farm. He attended Chaska schools and was a graduate of the class of 1957. Bob always had a passion for basketball, listening to games on the radio as the family did not have television. He was needed on the farm after school and also began working at Northrup King Seed at age 16 so he was unable to play himself. Following his graduation from Chaska he attended two years at the University of Minnesota.
He would meet the love of his life on a blind date and on June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Judith Grummons. They would go on to share 61 years of wedded bliss.
Bob was a man of dedication. He began working with Northrup King Seed at age 16 and served them as the brand changed through the years eventually retiring from Sygenta Seeds after 55 years with them. He also believed strongly in education and was a Shakopee School board member for many years.
Bob was probably best known for his instrumental role in the founding the Shakopee Basketball Association. He again served as a dedicated servant for 40-plus years. He not only toiled to ensure that every child had the opportunity to play but was generous in waiving fees if need be. He was a lover of all sports activities, refereeing basketball, umping baseball, and softball, and functioned as the scorekeeper for the Sabers and later his son, Terry's basketball team (coach.) Of recent, you could say that Bob was an equal supporter of both the Sabers and the Delano Tigers and considered himself lucky to see Shakopee win State in 2005 and Delano in 2018.
A loyal man who will be remembered for his generosity, dedication to the community and his family and all children.
He is survived by his wife Judy (who is currently impacted by dementia); daughter, Robin Bisek-Techam; son, Terry Techam, and his wife, Marie; grandchildren, Matt (Michelle) Bisek, Jacob (Katie) Bisek and Cody Bisek, Derek (McKenzie) Techam, Trent Techam, Grace Techam; great-grandchildren, Evie, Frankie, Norah, Max, Theo, Griffin, and Kendall; sister, Nancy Techam.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Harriet.
