Robert “Bobby” Pierce Tweedell, passed away on February 24, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born on April 5, 1950 in Calhoun, Georgia, but relocated to Athens, Georgia with his family in 1953 where he lived until he passed away.
Bobby is a graduate of Athens High, class of 1968. He then went on to attend the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in Business in 1972. During his time at UGA he was a member of the Delta Rho chapter of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. He was also a member of the local Georgia DeMolay chapter.
After college he was actively involved with the Athens Heritage Lions Club and Athens Jaycees. He went on to work for the family business, Tweedell & Van Buren Oil Company until he retired and the business closed at the end of 2015. Bobby was an avid lover of all Georgia Bulldog sports, to the point he did not miss a home football game for 50 straight years.
Bobby is survived by his three children; daughter, Kim Adams (Ben); daughter, Kelly McKinney (Chad); son, Jason Tweedell; and grandchildren, Hailey McKinney and Hunter McKinney. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Tweedell (Ann), brother, Hank Tweedell (Delynda), sister, Sara Tweedell, and two former wives, Chris Tweedell and Lynn Pease.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pierce Tweedell, mother, Virginia Tweedell, and his sister, Nancy Tweedell.
The family will host a celebration of life on April 5, 2025 which would have been his 75th birthday. Details on a time and location will be determined and shared closer to date.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who reached out during the difficult days leading up to his passing —whether through a visit, a meal, a card, prayer, or a kind word. Your love and support meant the world to Bobby and his family. Additionally, we are deeply grateful to all the nurses and staff at Legacy Village of Athens and Pruitt Hospice who provided such compassionate care for Bobby and support to the family during this time.
