Robert J. "Bobby" Vandal, 68, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with his devoted wife, Lori E. Brennan, by his side. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Norman H. and Ann M. (Pescaro) Vandal. He is also survived by his sister, Marianne Boudreau, and her husband Robert of Shrewsbury, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bobby was raised in Shrewsbury and graduated with the Shrewsbury High School Class of 1975. He went on to earn an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Quinsigamond Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College, followed by graduation from the Massachusetts Special State Police Academy.

Bobby's passion for service began early. At just 12 years old, he became a Shrewsbury Volunteer Firefighter. He also served as a Provisional Police Officer for the Shrewsbury Police Department. His long and dedicated career started at Digital Equipment Corporation, after which he became a Campus Police Officer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), where he served for 28 years. Throughout his tenure, Bobby's dedication and compassion earned him numerous awards for community outreach and student support. He was even named an honorary member of one of the fraternities and served as a house dad for a sorority.

Outside of work, Bobby found joy at the beach. He cherished his time at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, and his home in Old Orchard Beach, Maine-places where he could unwind while listening to his favorite band, The Beach Boys. At home, he lovingly cared for his rescue bunnies: Honeybun, Maggie Mae, and Shadow.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Koh, formerly of UMass Memorial Radiology and Oncology, for his exceptional care, and to the UMass valet staff for their kindness and support throughout Bobby's treatment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bobby's name may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League (www.worcesterarl.org/donate) to support the animals he cared for so deeply.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bobby's family between 4 – 7 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral will be on Friday, August 22, 2025, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10:00 AM at Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
