Robert Glenn Vaughn, age 79, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at Jefferson City Manor.
He was born on August 12, 1945, in Lohman, Mo., the son of Archie Glenn Vaughn and Bessie (Duncan) Gordon.
After graduating from Russellville High School in 1963, Robert joined the United States Marines and later the Army, serving his country during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication earned him numerous accolades, including a Purple Heart.
Returning home from Vietnam after his honorable discharge, Robert embarked on various careers. He worked as a corrections officer at the Jefferson City Correctional Center, where he eventually retired.
A man of simple pleasures, Robert enjoyed listening to Willie's Roadhouse and reading old westerns, his prayer books, or watching documentaries. He loved scratching lottery tickets, visiting casinos, and solving puzzles and word searches. Most mornings, he could be found at Dudley's Restaurant with his breakfast group, where they shared laughs and solved the world's problems together.
Though he could be ornery at times, Robert's dry sense of humor and friendly jokes always left those around him smiling. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Landers (David) ; grandchildren, Austin and Justin; (Brynlee) sister, Norma Tambke; nephews, Dallas Tambke (Janet), Danny Scott (Vicki), and Dennis Scott (Mary Jo); cousin, Rodger Zink (Carol); and his dear friends, Heather Huhman (Mark) and their son Jack, and his buddy Steve Colter.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Archie Vaughn and Bessie Gordon; sister Nancy Scott; and nephews, Doug Tambke and Donnie Scott.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tn., 38105, or Disabled American Veterans, 9700 Page Avenue, Suite 101, Rm 1-096, St. Louis, Mo., 63132.
