Robert L. "Bob" Waller, age 94, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Russell and Dorothy (Ashley) Waller, was born on November 5, 1930, in Harrison, Ohio. After he completed his schooling, he worked in the fields on the local farms before going to work at the U.S. Shoe Factory in Harrison, Ohio. On March 6, 1949, Bob married Jo Ann (Hall) Waller and they were blessed with two children: Kathy and Mickey. On March 7, 1952, he was inducted into the United States Army where he served as a Morse Code Operator in Germany during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to the U.S. Shoe Factory in Harrison before being transferred to their new location in Madison, Indiana in 1956. Throughout the years, he rose to become the Assistant Plant Manager at the Madison factory until his retirement after 52 years.
During his retirement, Bob enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets to purchase push mowers, and then repair their engines so he could re-sell them. He continued to service push mower for the community until just two years ago. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, woodworking, collecting antiques from yard sales with his wife, and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, the Cleveland Browns, and the Indiana University Hoosiers. Bob was a great man who helped a lot of people especially his family and was known by many for his kindness. Mr. Waller passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
His life will be cherished by his children: Kathy Trader of Madison, and Robert "Mickey" Waller and his wife, Paula of Madison; his grandchildren: Amy Calderon (Jenny), Erin Holler (Ed), Michael Waller (Jes), Kristin Kring (Drew), and Madalyn Waller (Ryan); his great-grandchildren: Kailyn, Kamryn, Eli, Holland, Cali, Westin, Logan, Maverik, Bailey, Hampton, Baker, and Lauryn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jo Ann Waller who passed away on November 1, 2011; his sister: Mary Schulte; his son-in-law: Russell Trader; and his niece, Ruth Leahigh.
