Robert Joseph "RJ" Weber, 70, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, after his battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on July 14, 1954, in Brussels, Wisconsin, to Robert "RD" and Kathy (Folgert) Weber. RJ was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
RJ moved to Algoma in the 5th grade, where he planted roots that grew deep within the community. After graduating from Algoma High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 1978, stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, AZ, where he worked on the electronics systems for the F4 fighter jet. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant and went on to graduate from Arizona State University in 1980. While in Phoenix, he met Theresa Troisi through mutual friends, and they married on February 14, 1981.
RJ returned to Algoma in 1984, to join his father, RD, in running Weber Insurance. Together, they helped found The Insurance Marketing Group of Wisconsin, Inc. (IMAGE of Wisconsin). RJ was always forward-thinking and entrepreneurial, opening the first fast-food restaurant in Kewaunee County, Subway, in 1993. He could often be seen behind the counter working the lunch-hour rush before heading back to Weber Insurance with a bag of subs for his coworkers.
Throughout his life, RJ was deeply involved in his community, dedicating his time to the Optimist Club, St. Mary's Parish, Friends of the Ahnapee Trail, the Algoma Chamber of Commerce, and the Knights of Columbus. He believed in service, in hard work, and in leaving the world better than he found it.
RJ was a man of many talents and passions. He enjoyed construction and remodeling, expanding his home many times and rebuilding his cherished cottage. He had an affinity for classic cars, including his 1969 Trans Am. He loved spending time outdoors-whether at deer camp with family in Pembine, Sea-Dooing at the cottage, or jigging for perch on his boat. Above all, RJ loved being "Papa" to his granddaughters Eloise, Lydia, and Brooklyn.
RJ was preceded in death by his parents, RD and Kathy, and his brother Daniel. He is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa; his children Christopher (Sydney) and Matthew (Monet); his granddaughters Eloise, Lydia, and Brooklyn; his sister Jean; and countless friends and extended family who will miss his generous spirit and helping hand.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Unity Hospice of Northeastern Wisconsin or The Parkinson's Foundation. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Sycamore Lodge Assisted Living and Unity Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. A memorial service is being planned for the spring to celebrate RJ's life.
