Robert L. Wheeler, age 62, of Fort Oglethorpe, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 29, 2025, at his home.
Robert was a native of
Cleveland, Ohio, and had lived most of his life in the North Georgia area. He attended Ringgold High School and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Throughout the years, Robert worked for Century Wrecker and North Georgia Ready Mix. In 2021, he retired as a truck driver from Clean Harbors Environmental after 25 years of dedicated service.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, hunting, fishing, and bicycling. He also had a passion for woodworking and owned and operated K&W Woodworks. In addition, Robert loved to sail, and his retirement dream was to sail down the Tombigbee Waterway into the Gulf of Mexico and island hop with his wife. Robert will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, love for family, and his adventurous heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner and Sandy Swanson; his son, Joshua Robert Wheeler; his grandparents, Robert Christian and Gertrude Pat Knudsen; and his sister, Michelle Swanson.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan Pagleno Wheeler; four children, Kristi (Jonathan) Moore, Chad (Lindi) Harris, Marissa (Johnathan) Sellers, and Ali (Matt) Kirby; three brothers, Phillip (Cindy) Wheeler, Brian (Karma) Wheeler, and Hank (Michelle) Swanson; two sisters, Debbie (Mike) Pagleno and Tara Ingle; sixteen grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses from Amedysis, BrightStar Care and Mobile Wound Center as well as the staff at VA Home Based Primary Care whose compassionate care and kindness provided comfort and dignity during Robert's final days.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 at 9:00a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Dr. Jim Bennett officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge,
Rossville, GA.
