Robert Zweigart, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, surrounded by all those he loved. A private family graveside service will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Robert was born on September 14, 1942, in Cedar Rapids to Walter and Helen (Schulte) Zweigart. He graduated from Norway High School with the Class of 1966 and went on to earn his Certificate in Accounting. From 1966 to 1970, Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Japan. In May of 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary K. Bena.
Robert worked in accounting for Iowa Electric Power Company, now known as Alliant Energy, until his retirement. A loving father and grandfather, he would travel across the state in a single day to attend any event for his grandchildren. Robert especially loved playing the conductor for Washington Elementary’s annual Polar Express tradition.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary K. Zweigart of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Ann of Davenport; his son, Michael Zweigart of Ankeny; four grandchildren; and his beloved grandpuppy, Teddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Regis Zweigart.
