Robin M. (Oprie) Cicchetti, of Concord, MA, passed away at Emerson Hospital on Monday, June 9, 2025. She was 64 years old.
Robin was born in Newton on February 15, 1961 and was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Jean (Manning) Oprie.
Robin grew up in Wayland, Massachusetts and attended Wayland High School, Emerson College, the University of Massachusetts (BA Economics), Cambridge College (MA Education) and then Northeastern University where she earned her doctorate.
She met her husband Claude in 1980, and they have been inseparable ever since, having married in 1984. The two moved abroad in 1985 and lived in Germany and then in the UK and Switzerland where they raised their two children. As a lifelong reader, Robin also found time while abroad to work in school libraries: founding a school library in London and directing an English language children's library in Basel Switzerland.
Upon her return to the US, Robin worked as librarian at the Willard School for eight years and then joined CCHS in 2007 as librarian. A few years later, CCHS became one of the first schools in the country to offer AP Capstone courses when Robin participated in the College Board pilot. Since joining CCHS she was also the faculty advisor for reading clubs which support a lifelong love of reading. Always wholeheartedly dedicated to her students, Robin took great pleasure in their progress and successes inside and outside the classroom.
Robin was also a Visiting Professor at the Salem State University McKeown School of Education. Robin was co-author of the Massachusetts School Library Study: Equity and Access for Students of the Commonwealth. In 2023 the Peabody Journal of Education published her follow-up research.
When not reading, Robin loved spending time with her husband, her children, and grandchildren. An avid open water swimmer, from May to September, she was found most every morning swimming across White Pond or Walden Pond with her swimming partner neighbor.
In her personal and professional life, Robin was known as insightful, positive, joyfully witty, and relentlessly kind.
Robin is survived by her husband Claude, her son Chase, her daughter Christina Schidlowsky, her granddaughter Anaïs, her grandson William as well as her sisters Bethany Oprie, Jennifer Tabor, and Lynn Calado.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Robin's life during a memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street, Concord on Friday, June 27th at 11 am. Private interment will be at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord. To attend the service remotely, please click here to view the church live stream.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Concord Education Fund, P.O. Box 202, Concord, MA 01742.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.

Dear Cricky, Chase, Claude and Michael

It is with profound sadness to hear about Robin passing. She was so full of the love of life offering enthusiasm and joy to others and should not have been taken from this earth at such a young age.

I was only fortunate enough to get to know her later in her life. I can only imagine how her dynamic personality enhanced every single person she knew. She was FUN!

After Cricky was married, she could not wait for Grandchildren. Seeing photos of her (Birdie) with Anais and William gave me such joy.

A light has gone out in Concord.

Love Judy Lyon

Robin will be remembered for her many gifts but also her wonderful leadership as a Girl Scout leader.

Robin was an energetic, good spirited, hard working and consummate professional with heart. She loved her work, her students, her colleagues, her family and, most of all, her life, which was taken from her too soon.

I am so sorry to hear about Robin's passing - she was an incredible teacher. Even in a remote, asynchronous class, I could tell how much she connected with and cared about her students. She was one of my favorite professors at Salem State; I will remember her class and her teachings for years to come. The impact of a teacher is forever - thank you, Robin.

I am so deeply sorry to hear this news. Robin was an amazing mentor. I did field work with her during my library teacher training and she taught me so much. Then she became a cherished colleague that I enjoyed running into at conferences and laughing with on social media. Sending love and peace to her family and all who loved her. This is such a loss.
