Roderick Douglas Obituary
Roderick Lantez Douglas was born on July 17, 1977, to the late Linda Young Davis and the late Lawrence Douglas Sr. in Jacksonville, Florida.
From the time Roderick entered the world he was loved by many. Roderick was never afraid to take charge and helped many by doing so. In 2004, Roderick moved to Houston, Texas and accomplished many goals and met many more friends during the ten (10) years he was there. He had a heart of gold and would give his last to anyone. His laugh was contagious and infectious and just being around him made a huge difference. Roderick loved shopping, travelling, seafood, social gatherings and spending time with family and friends. If you wanted a good laugh and good food, he was the person to call, he just wanted everyone to enjoy themselves. Music moved Roderick and he never missed a chance to see his Bethune Cookman Wildcats band in action.
Once Roderick moved back to Jacksonville, Florida, he acquired his dog Miracle Emery from his niece. Although Roderick did not have any children, Miracle was his child. Many could not understand it, but Roderick would tell you in a heartbeat that Miracle changed his heart.
Roderick was a proud graduate of Mandarin High School class of 1996, where he ran track and played in the band. Although Roderick was a huge Bethune Cookman University Wildcats fan, he received his Associate of Science in Business from Columbia Southern University in 2020. He continued his studies at Columbia Southern University and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management and graduated in 2021. Roderick was an avid learner and continued his education at Columbia Southern University and was planning to receive his Master of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management in December 2024.
Roderick had an extensive career working in banking for over twenty-five (25) years. He began his banking career at Compass bank as a teller and worked his way up to Assistant Branch Manager. Many years later he fulfilled one of his goals by becoming a Branch Manager with Community First Credit Union. Roderick then went on to a different sector of banking at Deutsche Bank as a KYC/Financial Crime Risk Control Associate for Corporate Banks. He was also the Treasurer of his Homeowner Association.
Roderick was a member of Philip R. Cousin African Methodist Episcopal Church and fulfilled any role he was called upon to do.
Roderick gained his wings on Monday, April 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Leon Davis and Gladys Douglas Anderson, Horace and Mary T. Young and Marion Tyson Wanton; brother, Lawrence Douglas, Jr.; and his beloved dog, Miracle Emery.
He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories, sisters, Belinda Jackson, Janice Douglas, Coretta Payton, Shannon Stewart, and Nicole Young; brothers, Willie Douglas (Khaquita), Maurice Douglas (Japonica) and Terrence Young (Jeanne); aunts, Jacqueline Young, Nola Gamble, Mary Chickel, Karen Stafford, and Roberta Williams; uncles, Clarence Young, Lindsay Douglas, Eddie Chance (Rosalie), Lamar Tyson (Stacey) and Bruce Tyson; godson, Jahkiem Simmons; godsister, Nikita Burney; special cousin, Veronica Anderson; special friends, Karen Pingel, Phoebe Nguyen and Shanel Chalwell; and a host of caring and loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

I thought of you as I passed by the area where you lived. I felt the breeze, the warmth of the sun and thought of our friendship. The softness of your voice, your laughter, your smile and the gentleness and kindness that was so much apart of your character. After Miracle's death, you told me that you would see him again. I'm sure you both are together now. How you "loved" Miracle so so much. I miss you.. my friend.. You have reached your destination.. your work here on earth has been done, however, your absence has left a hole in the hearts of so many~ God bless you.. always;

Missing you today my friend. Things haven´t been as bright and life hasn´t been nearly as funny since you left. You know that I wouldn´t be me if it wasn´t for you being you 20+ years ago when we met. Thank you Rod. Love you buddy.

Roderick was such a nice and friendly guy. We loved chatting with him and seeing him with his dogs. He was so thoughtful, sending me a condolence card after my Mom's unexpected death just one month before his passing. He will be missed.

My dear friend Rod, you will forever be missed. The love and laughs we´ve shared throughout our friendship of well over 25 years will never be forgotten nor could it ever be duplicated. This earth lost a true Angel and I lost a brother. As heartbroken as I am at this moment the only joy that I can find is that I know that you are once again with your good boy Miracle. Rest in Peace my smart, loving, hilarious friend.
I love you,
Michael Brodie

The kindest, sweetest, most gentle person I have ever known. We met at "doggie daycare" as his Miracle was best friends with my dog, Flash; We had great conversations and several laughs. He was thoughtful and caring. Genuine in every way. I am completely shocked and saddened .. taken so young! Still in disbelief; God called you home and we will miss your infectious smile for an eternity. Welcome home, my friend~ You are a true Christian. Your chapter on earth has closed; Until we meet again.. keep smiling, my friend. ~ Stay prayed up for us !! My deepest, hearfelt sympathy for the family of this wonderful man.
